I am an amateur woodworker with a bit of experience restoring older pieces. I have a mid-century Danish Modern dining table in what I believe to be Teak. The previous owner was pretty rough on it and had painted over some damage. I’ve since stripped & sanded and managed to get it back to bare wood. The trouble is there were two serious gouges in the veneer on the main part of the table. I ordered some veneer from a woodworking guy on Ebay who tried his best to match the style/pattern/wood type of my existing veneer as I have no local options. I patched it in, but the problem is the patched veneer is a slightly different color than the existing veneer. I had planned to use Danish Oil on this table, but the two different veneer types take the oil differently and make the distinction between old & new even worse.
At first, I took it up on a whim and then afterwards, turned it into my vocation. I came to the point that my wife called woodworking as my mistress. That’s quite funny, but it’s something you won’t trade in for easily.
